Kawaii defined

Welcome to the cute kawaii shop official blog. This site is designed to be your cute headquarters. It will keep you updated on the cutest trends, fashion, food and culture that are kawaii. For those who have never heard of kawaii let me explain. Kawaii is the Japanese word for cute. It is a subculture of Japanese society that is also sweeping the western world. The origins of kawaii are said to be in the 70’s. Japanese women who were aging out of school started writing on their notebook in bubble letters. They wore pastel colors and in styles that were viewed as childlike apart from the roles their society was pressuring them to take as adults.
Now kawaii is an adjective for anything that softens the heart. It is what creates motherly instincts yet kawaii is not gender specific. In the past the word was used to describe things of a tiny nature but now can be applied to everything from people to planes. The cute crazy gave rise to many iconic figures like Hello Kitty and Rilakkuma. In the 1980’s a popular art form known as manga popularized kawaii girls as cute but with very strong characters making them endearing role models we know and love today.
